The Daily Word prompt today — SPARKLE
Today I wanted to present a Chicago effort that really S-P-A-R-K-L-E-S. In fact, it’s even named The Sparkle Effect. I wanted to showcase them as they begin their holiday gift-giving across our troubled city
Circle of Friends (COF) of Bolingbrook, IL will host their annual Sparkle Christmas project entitled “IT’S CHRISTMAS TIME IN THE CITY”. Sparkle stands for SHINE, PURPOSE, AMBITION, RESOURCES, KINDNESS, LOVE, and EXCELLENCE.
This free event will be held at the Deborah’s Place facility, December 9th. Named for a late member Debra King, Deborah’s Place provides women an opportunity to escape life’s stresses and take part in a joyful, meaningful Christmas event.
Again this year, Circle of Friends will distribute Christmas Stockings filled with personal and feminine items which they will collect through Dec 7.
Circle of Friends was founded in 2009 by Charlena Griggs-Alston whose passion for helping those in need led her to provide relief programs for the poor, distressed, and underprivileged. In a spiritual environment, women who are able can share with those less fortunate.
Besides Sparkle, another of Griggs-Alston’s major events is Debra’s Way which partners, annually, with local churches to provide care packages for the homeless. Over the past seven years, Debra’s Way has helped distribute over 700 care packages on the streets of Chicago.
This spring Circle of Friends will present their Third Annual Women’s Conference and they need sponsors.
