My husband just brought it to my attention that I still have remnants of Christmas all over the downstairs living areas. Wow! I’d gotten so used to them being there and they fit in with the décor so well that they’d grown on me. (Love those bowls of ornaments and the silver ornaments around the powder room lights)
Hubby reminded me about homes we’d visited, long after the season was over, where the wreaths had browned and dropped needles all over the carpet; the poinsettia leaves had curled up and threatened to fall off if we stared at them too hard.
On the other hand, I’ve been to homes in July where the pine spray seemed so real you could cry; the statues of life-sized elves appeared startlingly as real as the over-sized Santa sitting in a resplendent, reindeer driven sleigh. Overdone? Not at all. With the Christmas music playing in the background, it was a thing of beauty!
In a world going mad with rules and laws—prohibitive language, unfair practices, and other forms of sadness and madness, can’t we just have Christmas?
Since I don’t live in la-la land, I will take the rest of the holiday down and pack it away, because we did just welcome daylight savings time yesterday (albeit reluctantly), and that’s a sure sign that Spring and summer are around the corner.
I’m leaving the Thanksgiving pillow. I’ve grown attached to it.
Love your post, Linda. I love Christmas as well and everything about it. At least you know that summer is coming and you’re coming into spring even though the Christmas decorations have come down.

My sister could have written this, Linda. Her holidays seem to overlap each other. I get it though. Christmas is such a wonderful time of the year and people are just plain nicer and more patient and tolerant. I wish it was like that all year round. I do keep a little figurine of Santa sitting on a comfy chair reading a book in my office all year round. Shhh! Don’t tell anyone. 😉 <3

I still have my Christmas Candy Cane apron and a few Christmas towels still out. Love your decorations, Linda. Never cared for daylight savings time while I was working. Now, since I retired seven months ago, it doesn’t make much of a difference.

I kept the lights up in the kitchen, I admit. The outside lights on the deck I use “I live in the forest” clause:) I keep a bit of Christmas year round, but I think I put most of it away. I have a elephant pillow that wears a xmas hat that stays out…its comfy and cute. There is this one thing in the bathroom I keep meaning to put away….lol.

LOL! This was a fun post. Christmas should be welcome all year. The people at the end of my block still light their outdoor Christmas lights every night. I often wonder if they still have decorations inside!
